On february 4th in the Plaza Nueva of Seville, Spain, opens a one man show of 12 monumental sculptures of the spanish sculptor Miguel Berrocal. Exhibition will be open till the march 26, 2009. The exhibition is organized by Fundación Escultor Berrocal and Unicaja together with the Ayuntamiento de Sevilla.The exhibition special setting is conceived to catch the curiosity and the atention of the public by showing the creative process of each work trough enlighted didactic panels and surprising lenticular images that reveal Berrocal’s particular aesthetic research for the inteterior of the form.The exhibition is organized by the Fundación Escultor Berrocal and Unicaja together with the Sevilla Municipality and was previously presented in Málaga during summer 2008 with a great public success.
Miguel Ortiz Berrocal. A short biography
Berrocal was born in 1933 in Villanueva de Algaidas, Malaga, Spain. For over 40 years he lived and worked in Negrar of Valpolicella – Italy. Only in his last year of life he returned in Spain to his borntown where he died in 2006.
The works of this internationally known artist are in the most important museums, public and private collections of the world. In overstepping the standards of traditional sculpture, Berrocal wanted to acknowledge the progression of the outer contours into the inner part of each work. To do this he has adopted the use of interlocking segments which constitute both the interior and exterior of his creations. In so doing he has obtained, therefore: a “sculpture” within a sculpture.
